ABSTRACT

The rise of multiple company competitors during the COVID-19 outbreak resulted in fierce competition among competing firms for new clients and the retention of current ones. As a result of the foregoing, exceptional customer service is required, regardless of the size of the organization. Furthermore, any company's ability to know each of its customers' desires will provide it an advantage when it comes to providing specialized customer care and establishing customized marketing plans for them. The term 'Consumer Buying Behavior Analysis' refers to a comprehensive assessment of the company's ideal clients/customers. In this project, we're utilizing the K-Means Algorithm to divide clients into two groups: 'Highly Active Customers' and 'Least Active Customers.' Then, utilizing the Apriori Algorithm, we use Association Rule Mining to recommend the best goods to clients based on their purchasing history and associations. We take one step further and use Logistic Regression to validate our Clustering operation by doing Binary Classification with our clusters as the label, resulting in accuracy and an F1 score of 91%. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

SARS-CoV-2, a virus which resulted in COVID-19 pandemic has prompted various challenges throughout the world. One of the major challenges is high demand of reliable diagnostic tests. Analytical tests accessible for COVID-19 are divided into following primary classifications: Molecular tests for detection of viral RNA and Serological tests for detection of anti-SARS-CoV-2 immunoglobulins. Some conventional COVID-19 diagnostic techniques have certain constraints like longer diagnostic times and low detection rates, resulting in insufficiency for massive quantity of tests. In order to counter such problems, emerging bio-sensing techniques have been developed that offer rapid analysis, high sensitivity and can be used for mass diagnosis. These emerging techniques are useful for point of care testing devices that would play a crucial role in combatting the disease spread. Artificial intelligence can also be utilized to combat COVID-19 outbreak. Applications of AI can be extended to detection and screening of the infection, assessing the treatment procedure, predicting and forecasting the infection pattern of the virus, but the applications of AI are not limited to the aforementioned aspects. AI can also find its application in contact tracing, development of drug, vaccine and decreasing work load on health professionals. Information systems and technology such as Telemedicine, Robotics, Internet of Things (IoT) and mobile phones are utilized to monitor this worldwide pandemic. This chapter advances technology development and future research to deliver better solutions for handling the challenges of present and future pandemics. © 2022 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Background. Treating COVID-19 infection in SOT is challenging due to long-term use of immunosuppressive agents. REM is the only FDA-approved anti-viral for SARS-COV-2 infection. DEX showed decrease in mortality in the Recovery Trial. COVID-19 treatment guidelines for SOT patients are the same as NTP despite limited literature on those outcomes. Our primary objective was to determine if 30-day mortality was different between SOT and NTP matched cohorts using these 2 drugs. The secondary objectives included comparisons of length of stay (LOS), days on mechanical ventilation (DMV), and the use of other treatment modalities. Methods. We retrospectively collected data for hospitalized SOT and NTP, 18 years and older, with pcr-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection receiving REM and DEX from May 1, 2020, to October 10, 2020, at Mayo Clinic Florida. IRB approval was obtained. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. Continuous variables were summarized as mean (standard deviation) or median (range) where appropriate, while categorical variables were reported as frequency (percentage). Results. Of 80 patients who met the inclusion criteria, 28 were SOT, and 52 were NTP. The SOT cohort was subcategorized below: SOT patients were significantly younger than NTP (p < .001). Further, SOT patients had significantly longer LOS (p = 0.043) and more COVID-19 modalities (75% vs. 36.5%, p = 0.002) compared to NTP. Among the 28 SOT patients, 2 of them died within 30 days of admission, and among the 52 NTP patients, 7 of them died within 30 days. The 30-d survival estimate for SOT group is 92.9% (95% CI: 83.8% -100. 0%) and for NTP group is 86.5% (95% CI: 77.7% - 96.3%). The log-rank test was not significant between the groups (p=0.37), but the NTP has a worse survival curve from the figure below. Conclusion. SOT group was younger, had longer LOS, and more COVID-related modalities. The 30-d survival estimate for SOT group is 92.9% and for NTP group is 86.5%, but the survival curve for NTP was worse likely secondary to age. Use of REM & DEX in SOT recipients is a valid recommendation.

ABSTRACT

Background: With nearly three-fourths of the U.S. population isolated in their homes between early March and the end of May, almost all of whom regularly watch television (TV), it was no surprise that companies began to purchase airtime on major television networks to advertise (ad) their brands and showcase their empathy with the populace. But how would the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic curve have changed had these same dollars been allocated to proven preventive interventions? Methods: Performance and activity metrics on all COVID-19 related TV ads that have aired in the U.S. between February 26th and June 7th, 2020, were provided by iSpot.tv, Inc., including expenditures. COVID-19 incidence and mortality data were collected from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Descriptive statistics were performed to calculate total TV ad expenditures and other performance metrics across industry categories. Leveraging a previously published stochastic agent-based model that was used to assess the cost-effectiveness of non-pharmaceutical interventions to control COVID-19, the number of cases that would have been prevented had these same dollars been used for preventive interventions was calculated using cost-effectiveness ratios (CERs), the cost divided by cases prevented. Results: A total of 1,513 companies purchased TV airtime during the study period, totaling approximately 1.1 million airings, 215.5 billion impressions, and $2.7 billion in expenditures;most of the expenditures were spent by the restaurant (15.9%), electronics and communications (15.4%), and vehicle (13.7%) industries. The CERs for PPE and social distancing measures were $13,856 and $29,552, respectively;therefore, had all of these TV ad dollars instead been allocated to PPE or social distancing measures, approximately 194,908 and 91,386 cases of COVID-19 may have been prevented by the end of the study period, respectively. Conclusion: Americans were inundated with COVID-19 related TV ads during the early months of the pandemic and companies are now showing some signs to relent. In times of disaster, however, it is paramount that the private sector go beyond showcasing their empathy and truly become socially responsible by allocating their funds to proven prevention and control measures.

ABSTRACT

Child abuse is a social evil which has existed in our society since a long time. The awareness regarding the same has been minimal in developing countries. Many a times, punitive measures taken by parents to discipline their children turn out to be painful scars in their childhood resulting in stunting of their mental and social growth. Doctors and other health care workers have a very important role in identifying and reporting such issues. Law has also evolved over the recent past in safeguarding the future of our children. However, awareness regarding this issue has remained to be the same as before. During the current era of COVID, parents and children have been restricted to their homes. Livelihood of many families have been at risk. These issues have burdened the caretakers at home and absence of teachers who were otherwise their guardian angels have impacted the minds of these children adversely. Hence in this article we intend to provide good clarity about this social evil, and the rights of our children. We also wish to stress upon the duties of parents, doctors, teachers in molding these tender minds so as to get the best out of them.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is the most dreaded pandemic of our times, which lead to a state of chaos among the mightiest nations of the world. The immune system plays a great role in response to any foreign organisms be it bacteria or viruses. Virus-based pandemics like SARS, MERS, COVID-19 have time and again been surfacing leading to mortality and morbidity worldwide. These pandemics have also resurfaced the role of public health and its modes which have been fading in the presence of lucrative hi-tech medical industry. Although Chinese system of medicine has been explored, there is still more to be done in exploring solutions from time tested Indian systems of medicine like Ayurved and Yog. Its time to rethink and explore ways to harness our immune system and look for evidence-based solutions providing the best of both medical systems to the patients, i.e., modern medicine as well as Ayurved and Yog. The present review is a narrative review wherein studies were searched from databases like PubMed, Cochrane, Scopus, and web pages. Given a paucity of studies hereby we explored existing pieces of evidence, thereby concluding that more randomized controlled trials need to be done for assessing the role of Ayurved, Yog, and other Indian systems of medicine to enrich the armamentarium in the fight against such viruses in future. Family physicians can play a vital role in not only suggesting treatment but also changes in lifestyle of the patients as well as their family. Evidence based knowledge of ancient Indian system will open a new door of integration for overall well being of patient with a scientific outlook.
